Scoliosis treatment for children
The Schroth method for treating children with scoliosis (combined with brace treatment)must be done with a personalised and meticulous manner. Daily exercises at home and correct postures during play time activities, based on the Schroth method, have been found to be helpful in many cases.
The goals of the specific Schroth physiotherapy exercises for children with scoliosis are:
1) to encourage lengthening,
2) increasing the function of the chest and expanding the concave areas,
3) improving the posture and shape of the chest.
Schroth exercises are specific to each individual curve and should be performed in the corrected posture as taught by the trainer therapist. When your child does these specific exercises, a parent or caregiver will need to learn these exercises also, and work together with the child at home.
